Your Fuel Savings in a Plug-in Hybrid

XC60 Recharge Vertical.png

Volvo's Plug-in Hybrids, known as PHEVs, offer a combination of gas and electric motors that work together in tandem to provide significant fuel economy benefits while adding additional power and eAWD.

What Could My Fuel Savings Look Like?

Let's take a fictitious example and compare the potential fuel cost savings in a gas-propelled car, vs in a PHEV car. If we based our calculation on

Annual Driving: 24,000km per year

Average Combine Fuel Economy: 12L/100kms

and we translate this into monthly figures, we get:

2,000 kms of driving per month

120mL of fuel per km driven

In A Car Propelled Solely by A Gas Engine:

120mL of fuel x 2,000 km per month =

240,000mL OR 240 liters of Fuel

$2.00/per liter of fuel X 240 liters of fuel per month =

$480 in Fuel Costs per month

In A PHEV where 50% of the Driving is Electrically Propelled:

60mL of fuel x 2,000 km per month =

120,000 mL OR 120 liters of Fuel

$2.00 per liter of Fuel x 120 liters =

$240 in Fuel Costs monthly ($240 savings)

In A PHEV where 70% of the Driving is Electrically Propelled:

36mL of fuel x 2,000 km per month =

72,000 mL OR 72 liters of Fuel

$2.00/per liter of Fuel x 72 liters =

$144 in Fuel Costs monthly ($336 savings)
